Programme Details

Schedule

Max. No. of Children Per Class

8 - 18

What do you want to do when you grow up? This summer, come and try to be a firefighter or a scientist. Box Hill welcomes you to explore different community helpers through hands-on activities. Build a fire engine or fly a space shuttle, we can help your children learn and grow over the summer through exciting experiences. We will introduce a helper each week and delve into their jobs and equipment to better understand how they help our community. Occupations are in no particular order and will be arranged according to each campus.

Scientist

Children will be encouraged to explore the work duties that different types of scientists perform. We will conduct simple experiments that will involve liquids like milk, water and soda to see different reactions. We will use child-sized science tools like beakers, goggles, magnifying glasses and more so they can experience being a scientist first hand.

Firefighter

Hurry Hurry, Goes the Fire Truck! Most children love saying they want to be a firefighter. Using large boxes and other materials, children will be able to make large constructions to create the items firefighters use in their daily duties. We will also go over fire safety and how to be careful at home. They can use their imagination to put out fires, save cats and much more.

Astronauts

Up, up and beyond! Let’s explore the universe. How have we explored space? What do astronauts eat in space shuttles? Will we ever live in space? How do they protect themselves? Are there aliens in space? We will learn about all of these things and more during this week. We will also go over the planets and what we know about them. Children will be given the opportunity to dress up and “rocket” into space and “walk” on the moon.

Doctor

An apple a day keeps the doctor away. Is that true? How can doctors help us and should we be scared? Children can role-play going to a clinic and become doctors, nurses, patients and technicians. We will prepare many items that they can use to check our heartbeat, bandage injuries and hear our hearts. Children are familiar with this occupation, so they will be able to extend their knowledge and enjoy playing with others.

About Summer Camp

This summer, let your child have fun at Box Hill’s summer camp. With the popular theme of Community Helpers, our teachers provide a safe, nurturing and supportive environment where children can thrive by exploring different kinds of careers.

From firefighters to scientists, young children will be able to use their imaginations to become their favourite helper. They will learn about their responsibilities and how we can show our appreciation.

Throughout the weeks, all developmental areas will be covered to ensure a holistic programme suited to young learners. Apply now to reserve a space!

Our Developmental Areas

Aesthetic Development – Artistic opportunities await to be experienced and tap into creative minds through dramatic play, music and dance performances, not just for enjoyment, but to aim for ‘confidence’ building in each participant. Children will enjoy creative expression and gain skills to help with public speaking and performing in front of others.

Language and Literacy – Children will have ample opportunities to make friends and engage in conversations. They will enjoy learning about the different careers and how they help our community. New vocabulary words and speaking skills will be supported through stories, games and high-quality educational games.

Physical Development – The elements of physical development featured for each week can help enhance ‘interest’ in the children; actively participating and practising basic skills towards achieving a healthy body, mind and soul through invigorating activities such as ball games, basic games and team sports.

Math & Science – Simple yet thrilling activities will be introduced each week that can arouse children’s natural curiosity and bring to life undiscovered ‘concepts’ through enriching scientific inquiry in experimental activities. Our little ones will have the chance to play, explore and learn and understand different mathematical operations through real-life experiences and educational games. We will build on their current knowledge to ensure a strong foundation in math concepts.

Social and Emotional Development – Health and well-being is an important aspect of the early years especially in current situations. Providing a safe and warm setting is crucial to children’s social and emotional development. Teachers will use stories, incidental teaching and role-play to help children navigate and control their emotions and help them build new friendships. Older children will learn how to solve problems together and work in groups to complete a task.

  • 3 hours per session covering the different developmental areas

  • School bus service available upon request and availability

  • Certificates will be given out to children who have been enrolled the whole term and attended more than 75% of lessons during the term.
